6 Reasons Why Your Company Needs a Corporate Wellness Program That Includes Fitness (Benefits)

Corporate wellness programs and initiatives create a win win scenario. The employer wins due to factors including increased productivity and decreased absenteeism. The employee wins as they are healthier and happier as a result.

Here are 6 reasons why your organisation should have a wellness program that includes fitness, based on facts and research, not opinions.

1. It Actually Saves Money

Corporate wellness programs can occasionally get pushback from key stakeholders as there isn’t an immediate return on investment. Actually, there is.

According to the Indiana State Department of Health, employers save on average $3.48 in reduced health care costs and $5.82 in lower absenteeism costs for every dollar spent on employee wellness. Collectively, that’s a 9.3x ROI. You can read more here.

2. Increased Productivity

There’s lots of different areas to a wellness program, such as mental, financial and physical wellness. Looking at the health benefits here, employees who didn’t exercise very much are 50% more likely to have high presenteeism than employees who are regular exercisers. This was discovered during a study by Brigham Young University.

Presenteeism = Being ‘at work’ but not actually working.

3. Don’t Be The Only Ones Not Doing It

According to the reward and employee benefits association, 86% of employers included physical activity in their wellbeing strategy. Employees are starting to expect these sort of packages. Don’t get left behind! You can read the full report here.

4. Less Sick Days

United Healthcare’s wellness survey shows that 56% of employees had fewer sick days because they took part in corporate wellness programs. This one is a huge win for both the employer and the employee.

5. Morale Boost

We all know how important morale is in a team. Employees get a huge morale boost from corporate wellbeing and fitness schemes.  In fact, 54% of organisations cite employee morale as their most improved metric from implementing wellness programs.

6. Effective Communication

High performing teams are awesome. The Harvard Business Review say that team performance is best among teams that communicate in informal situations. Whether that be problem solving during an escape room, or motivating each other on a fitness challenge. This communication is vital to help teams work together effectively.
